Cabanas is located just over 30 kms to the east of Faro in the direction of the Spanish border. It is a very picturesque, traditional fishing village situated on the estuary of the Ria Formosa. One of the unusual, and in our opinion, attractive features of Cabanas is the location, of the beach. Because of its estuary location, it is accessible only by boat. However, this is not a hindrance as there is a continuous boat service from the village which makes the trip to the beach a more interesting and enjoyable outing, especially for the children in the party. The beach itself can only be described as excellent with soft golden sand and all the usual facilities available such as sunbed and parasol hire. While Cabanas has a good selection of mostly traditional style bars and restaurants, it could hardly be described as lively and is a more suitable location for families and those looking for a quieter, more relaxed holiday. There is also a fair selection of shops in the village but, for more serious shopping, the town of Tavira is only 7kms away or a trip to the provincial capital Faro may also be considered worthwhile. |
