Wonders of Jordan Itinerary: Day 1: Arrive Amman - Welcome to Jordan! On arrival at the Alia Airport you will be met, assisted through customs and immigration and transferred to the Days Inn Hotel or similar for your overnight stay in a Standard Room, B&B. Remainder of your day at leisure. Day 2: Jerash & the Desert Castles - After breakfast you depart for the city of Jerash, founded in 300 BC. Walk through this ancient Greco-Roman city, taking in Hadrian’s Triumphal Arch, the Hippodrome and the Forum. Marvel at the impressive colonnaded streets, the churches, and the Amphitheatres. Later you head for the Desert Castles of Qaser Amra, Kharaneh and Azraq, built by the Umayyads (661-750 AD) and now stand as a testament to early Islamic-Arab civilization. Returning to the Days Inn Hotel, staying in a in a Standard Room, B&B. Day 3: Amman, Madaba, Mt. Nebo, Kerak & Petra - You depart Amman for Petra, visiting St. George's Church in Madaba, home to the famous mosaic map of the Holy Land and Mt. Nebo along the way. Mt. Nebo is reputed to be Moses’ last visited site and also his burial place in the Holy Land. Proceeding via the famous Kings' Highway you stop at Kerak for a tour of the famous Crusader castle of Reginald of Châtillon and then on to the Grand View Resort in Petra or similar for your overnight stay in a Standard Room, B&B. Day 4: Petra - Today Petra awaits you! The Nabataean capital, flourishing during biblical times, was deemed virtually impregnable, and dominated the Middle East caravan routes for 4 centuries before being assimilated into the Roman Empire in 106 A.D. The first sighting of the Treasury as you enter the city through the narrow defile (the ‘Siq’) is breathtaking. Spend a full day in Petra enjoying the ‘rose city’, including a short horse-drawn carriage ride to the entrance and a 2hr locally guided tour. Overnight in the Grand View Resort or similar in a Standard Room, B&B. Day 5: Petra, Wadi Rum & Aqaba - This morning we visit Beidha or little Petra dating back to the same period, before heading for Wadi Rum, a vast silent landscape of ancient riverbeds, pastel coloured stretches of sandy desert and amazing rock formations known as jebels. You tour the desert in a 4x4 Jeep, before continuing to the Gulf of Aqaba, staying in the Marina Plaza Hotel in a Standard Room, B&B. Day 6: In Aqaba - Enjoy a day at leisure on the shores of the Red Sea. Your Hotel offers stunning views over the Gulf of Aqaba and the mountains of Egypt beyond. The Marina Plaza features a private beach club and excellent facilities or you can use the free shuttle service and visit Aqaba, Jordan’s lively seaside town with shopping, dining and nightlife. Day 7: Aqaba, Baptismal Site & Dead Sea - After breakfast you depart for the Dead Sea – at 383m below sea-level, the lowest point on earth. Known since biblical times for its restorative powers, floating in this brine sea is an unforgettable experience. En-route you visit the Baptismal site, representing one of the most important archaeological discoveries in modem Jordan — the settlement and region of Bethany (or Beth abra), where John the Baptist lived and baptized. Overnight in the Dead Sea Spa Hotel in a Standard Room, B&B. Day 8: Dead Sea & Amman - Relax over breakfast before your return to Amman, where on arrival you enjoy a guided tour of the Capital.
