Havana Holidays

The World > The Caribbean > Cuba > Havana

Why? As one of the Caribbean’s most charming cities, Havana is sure to captivate any visitor. With so much to do, a Havana holiday is bound to be packed full of interesting and absorbing activities. Why not take an evening stroll down the Malecón – Havana’s iconic boulevard? Of course, a visit to Habana Vieja is must. Beautiful architecture, lush plazas and a myriad museums, Old Havana possesses most of the city sights. If you’re feeling adventurous, head out and explore Havana's nightlife, visit a steamy salsa bar or simply take in a dazzling cabaret show.

When? Havana has a warm, sub-tropical climate all year. The very best time to visit would be from December – April as the weather tends to be slightly cooler with very little chance of rainfall, however this is high season so you can expect to see crowds. If you want to avoid the crowds of visitors head over from May – October as this is rainy season, so the weather will be warmer and more humid, but the crowds will be smaller. Hurricane season lasts from July – November, although don't let this deter you from your Havana holiday as the risk of a serious hurricane in Cuba is extremely low, especially in Havana.

Who for? A holiday in Havana is sure to appeal to a vast range of people. Those seeking culture should head to Habana Vieja where you can enjoy a selection of museums, charming colonial buildings and even live salsa performers. While those looking for relaxation can enjoy a pina colada while witnessing the sunset over the Malecón or take in a cabaret show at the world-famous Tropicana Nightclub.

One of the Caribbean’s largest and most vibrant cities, Cuba’s capital Havana is a kaleidoscope of live salsa performers, vintage American cars, pastel-coloured colonial architecture and 14 kilometres of shimmering coastline, and one of the most popular destinations for a Cuba holiday. It’s all too easy to spend a day or two exploring the beautiful old quarters of the city, Habana Vieja. Packed full of buildings centuries old, including the Plaza de Armas and the Plaza de la Catedral, as well as the Parque Central and numerous museums, Havana Vieja is the ideal starting point for any Havana tour.

After sunset, you can always take in the zest of a cabaret show or head to the famous Tropicana Nightclub. Anyone with a love of literature should spend an evening sipping mojitos at the Bodeguito del Medio or the Havana Floridita bar, both treasured haunts of the writer Ernest Hemingway. For entertainment on a Sunday afternoon, amble over to Callejon de Hamel where leading Cuban bands perform live rumba sessions. If it’s a city with a vivacious culture and a fascinating history you’re seeking, a Havana holiday is ideal for you.
