Beijing the capital city of the peoples republic of China, is a modern and bustlng city with over 14 Million people living in this metropolis. The world watched as China put on an olympics to remember and the profile that this raised for China has been a tremendous upshot for this busy city. It is home to high rise buildings, international top quality hotels and sprawling suburbs. Despite the slowdown in 2008 the cranes can still be seen over the city and the city has an abundance of attractions of historical and cultural interest to be seen. The Summer Palace, the Great Wall and the remains of the Peking man are all Unesco endorsed world heritage sites.
Most visitors to the city stop off at the Forbidden city, which is located centrally in the main part of Beijing. The original Palace had over 9999 rooms which formed the administrative center of the country and home to the emperor of China. Located in the grounds of the Forbidden city lies the infamous Tiananmen Square the scene of much dissent in the past.
Weather Beijing
Now is a good time to visit Beijing, as the facilities have been newly installed for the 2008 Olympics. The climate in Beijing can be rather extreme. The best time to travel to Beijing weather wise is during its relatively short spring which is from Februrary - April or in Autumn between August - October. Avoid the stifling summers and freezing winters.
Beijing Airport.
The main airport in Beijing is the Beijing Capital International Airport coded as (PEK). The airport is located about 28 km north of the city of Beijing. A shuttle bus does run between the two main terminals. The transfer system was revamped before the Olympics with shuttle buses running regularly to the city. The ride to the city takes about 45 minutes. Metered taxis are also available. Travelling time to the city can take between 45 minutes and 1 hour depending on traffic
