The floating market is another must see and is located in Thonburi. Sit back and enjoy the raft of smells while a visit to the nearby Oriental Hotel is good for a cocktail or two.
Shopping Bangkok
Shopping in Bangkok offers a huge variety between traditional handcrafts to the larger shopping centres. Branded good are as much as 80% cheaper than in the main capital cities. If you are into counterfeit good you can find these on the stalls that litter Sukhumvit or the Night Plaza in the Patpong area of the city.
Nightlife Bangkok
The nightlife in Bangkok is somewhat infamous, decadence, classy nightlife joints, whatever takes your fancy. The good news is that since Februrary 2008, the restaurants and bars are now non smoking although this law is flouted. You also are required by law to be 20 to buy drinks in the bars. All the major Bangkok bars will accept credit cards although there is usually a minimum spend.
Bangkok and Thailand currency.
The local currency is the Baht normally referred to as (THB) on the currency exchange. It is divided into 100 satang and you can change your money into thai currency in most of the major banks, hotels and bureauxs dotted around the city. You can also change money at the airport.
Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK)
The main airport is called Suvarnabhumi, and is located about 30 km east of Bangkok. There are shuttle buses that provide free transport between the main terminal and transport centre from where you can catch a public bus, taxi or rent a car. The airport Express is a privat eair-conditoned coach which takes you from the airport to the main first class hotels in the city. A tourist information booth is located in the arrivals section of the airport and the airport has a good variety of restaurants and excellent duty free shopping.
