Often referred to as the “Spice Island”, Zanzibar lies off the coast of Tanzania. A tropical island of white beaches, with an exotic culture and a dark history, Zanzibar holidays are an unforgettable experience.
Things to Do in Zanzibar
- Discover Zanzibar’s top beaches. Nungwi Beach, Kendwa Beach, and Matemwe Beach, each boast those postcard-worthy white sands and azure seas.
- Take a spice tour of the Spice Island. Spice is one of Zanzibar’s most important industries and a tour of the plantations and markets is a must-do when visiting the island.
- Spend a day or two exploring Stone Town. Visit the Old Fort, the Sultan’s Palace, the Darajani Market, and have dinner at Mercury’s – a restaurant paying tribute to Stone Town native Freddy Mercury.
- Learn about Zanzibar’s dark past at Prison Island and the Slave Market in Stone Town. Once a detention area for slaves, Prison Island is now a nature reserve for giant tortoises.
