South Africa – The Cape Escape

South Africa – The Cape Escape
Cape Town is South Africa's oldest city, it is quickly becoming one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the world. Discover everything this 'Mother City' has to offer by exploring the bustling city centre, the picturesque Winelands and game viewing in the malaria-free Eastern Cape. A South Africa safari has something for everyone.

Begin by embracing the diverse cultures of Cape Town. The Kirstenbosch Botanical gardens and Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve are popular attractions. Cape point offers fantastic scenery and hiking trails. Get some well-deserved rest in the 4-star Cullinan Hotel, this hotel was used as a filming location for the fourth series of 'Homeland'.

This South Africa safari sadly comes to an end in Stellenbosch. Wine tasting in one of South Africa's oldest winery’s, Spier Wine Farm, and spending the night here is the perfect end to this unforgettable safari holiday.

South Africa Safari Attractions:

  • Get the perfect South Africa safari photograph while you have the stunning Table Mountain as a backdrop. This natural wonder boasts the world’s highest abseil at 112m.
  • Spot the 'Big 5' and many other unique species in Sanbona. This wildlife reserve has initiated a unique conservation programme which aims to breed white lions and release them into the wild. There are currently less than 300 white lions left in the world !
  • De Hoop is home to a marine protected area which extends 5km out to sea. This area is known as one of the best places for whale watching, as the mammals migrate here to breed and nurse their young between July and November.
  • Robben Island is a popular tourist attraction. Nelson Mandela spent 18 years of his 27 year incarceration imprisoned on this island.

Best time to visit:

August - November: This is the best time of year for whale watching in Cape Town. However, rainfall may be more frequent so pack accordingly.

May - October: This is South Africa's dry season, game viewing conditions are great at this time of year as animals are easier to see through thinned out shrubbery and are usually seen gathered around watering holes.

Our opinion:

Andre - ‘South Africa is one of my favourite places to visit, I can’t get enough of its sunny weather, white sand dunes and diverse wildlife. The De Hoop Collection in the south is great for hiking, cycling, bird and whale watching, I certainly recommend it! The Spier wine farm produces truly delicious wines and the guided cellar tour is very interesting. This safari holiday gives you a truly unique 'Taste of the Cape'!’
